When I was a child, the scariest thing on the movie screen was King Kong, a rattling skeleton over a vat of acid or some green slime that oozed under the door to attack you! Now with the advent of computer generated imagery, we have a myriad of monster and alien possibilities.
I’m not a sci-fi fan but my husband is. He thrives on the creative imagination of aliens with glowing red eyes, mechanical body parts like the Borg Queen and mutant abilities to transform from a normal looking human being into a supernatural, powerful villain. I watch with him through the lattice-work of my fingers across my eyes. Ugh....I need a drama or a chick-flick!
In ministry I have encountered some of the fiercest of monsters living within beautiful human beings, controlling and destroying their lives and their relationships. The green-eyed monster of jealousy and envy are always the worst and sometimes the hardest to uproot.

Marketing tells us we will be happy, sexy, and young again if we purchase certain products. We live in a very discontented world even though we have more resources at hand than any former generation. We have perfected the lust for more and buried the peace of contentment.
There are many scriptures that address this spiritual problem but I would like to share just a few from the Old and New Testament. All are from the King James Version of the Bible.
Psalms 37:1 Fret not yourself because of evildoers, neither be you envious against the workers of iniquity.
Proverbs 14:30 A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.

Song of Solomon 8:6 Set me as a seal on your heart, as a seal on your arm: for love is strong as death; jealousy is cruel as the grave: the coals thereof are coals of fire, which has a most vehement flame.

1 Corinthians 3:3 For you are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are you not carnal, and walk as men?

Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
365体育世界杯James 3:14 But if you have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth.
James 3:15 This wisdom descends not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish.
James 3:16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.
365体育世界杯Many a marriage has suffocated a slow death because of jealousy and envy. Many a prisoner has awaken incarcerated after a binge of jealously and envy. Many a life has ended in suicide because of the lies of jealous and envy. Many a relationship with a friend has ended abruptly because of jealousy and envy. There is no happiness in a life engulfed with jealousy and envy.
365体育世界杯The antidote for this poison is love. Not the love we associate with cookies and pets but the Godly love that lays down its life for another. This kind of love can only flow from a person who knows who they are in Christ; a person who is safe in the presence of God and needs little more. The very act of loving another uproots the monster of jealousy and causes freedom to come.
Just suppose what would happen in your life if you wrote down the things you were jealous for and envious of and set about to make them happen in someone else’s life? Always wanting a new dress? Buy one for someone who has lost everything in a flood. Always wanting a new tool? Buy one for the hardworking laborer who needs a new tool to continue to provide for his family. Always wanting to have a bigger house? Use what you have to provide a place for a small group Bible study.
Laying-down-your-life love will break the bondage of jealousy and envy every time! Let’s kill those green-eyed monsters and walk free in peace and joy!
